FinsWheelsFeet and the 14.06 Triathlons

At the very beginning of this year, I made it one of my fitness goals to complete a triathlon. After 7 months into the year, I have now completed 2! It had actually been my ultimate goal to complete a full Sprint distance (800m swim, 12mi Bike, 5k run) triathlon, but due to time constraints, I will be unable to do one.

Here’s a recap of my summer adventures, the triathlon edition:

Fins Wheels Feet Triathlon – 250m swim, 12mi bike, 5k run | May 22, 2011

Although I had trained for nearly 2 months specifically for the swim, I was not at all mentally prepared. I slipped into the pool with confidence, but left it thinking I had nearly died. After just 25 meters I lost all focus and any ounce of confidence I had was gone. My estimated time was 7 minutes, but I was in the pool for a total of 10minutes and 13seconds; it was a sad state of affairs. Luckily there are no videos or pictures of this portion of the race!

Bike - 12miles

Run - 5k

After all was said and done, I made up a lot of the time in the bike and run portions of the race and did fairly well for my first triathlon. My goal was to finish in under 90 minutes and I was able to meet it. Here are my official times:

SWIM 10:13
T1 2:15
BIKE 43:06
T2 0:52
RUN 27:31
TOTAL 1:23:58

The 14.06 Triathlon - 425yd swim, 11.2mi bike, 2.6mi run | July 10, 2011

I signed up for a second small triathlon in hopes to redeem myself in the pool. I was not satisfied with having floated and backstroked my way through 200 meters clinging on (literally the ropes) for dear life in my first tri. So I took a stab at another one. This time, I trained less, physically, but was much more mentally prepared. Although I was SLOW beyond belief, I remained calm, focused on being relaxed, and maintained the mentality that this was not a race against others, just against myself!

Swim - 425yds

Bike - 11.2mi

There are no (good) photos from the run portion, but I think I did well. I had the fastest run time in my division (females aged 25-29). The whole race had just under 200 participants, but it was fun to be among locals. I ended up placing 3rd while my race buddy finished 2nd in our group; I can safely say that I redeemed myself!

SWIM 14:25
T1 2:01
BIKE 32:59
T2 1:28
RUN 21:07
TOTAL 1:11:58

Females 25-29 (3rd, 1st, 2nd)

Onward to the next adventure! Half-marathon in October?
